BMC Identifies Huge Community Healthcare Gap and Opens Doors to Medicare Patients

At a time when most providers in the tri-county area are not accepting Medicare patients, Bend Memorial Clinic is announcing acceptance of Medicare patients by primary care physicians who are accepting new patients.

A problem across Oregon, many area primary care physicians must turn away new Medicare patients because reimbursement rates are too low to cover the cost of the medical care they provide. In Bend and surrounding areas, the Central Oregon Council on Aging has noted that residents searching for primary care physicians who accept Medicare is one of the largest problems in our community.

Taking the lead on this critical issue, BMC will also offer Medicare patients access to to specialists who provide care at the clinic.

The mission statement for the BMC Foundation is:

To promote healthy communities of Central and Eastern Oregon through education and research that addresses the cause, treatment and prevention of disease and disability.

In late 2005 the partnership of BMC voted to make “cancer” the main focus of the Foundation activities.
