Endocrinology
Endocrinology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the endocrine system and its specific secretions called hormones. The endocrine system is one of the body's main systems for communicating, controlling, and coordinating the body's work. It works with the nervous system, reproductive system, kidneys, gut, liver and fat to help maintain and control:
- body energy levels
- reproduction
- growth and development
- internal balance of body systems (called homeostasis)
- Responses to surroundings, stress and injury
If you or your primary care physician suspect that you have an endocrine disorder, you may require a specialist called an Endocrinologist. An Endocrinologist is a specially-trained doctor who diagnoses and treats disorders that are complex and involved many systems and structures within your body. Your doctor can refer you to an Endocrinologist when you have a problem with your endocrine system.
Our board certified endocrinologists treat a full range of conditions such as:
- Diabetes (including clinical research studies)
- Thyroid disorders (including thyroid cancer)
