Founded in 2005 by Dr. Richard Fawcett, the BMC Infectious Diseases Department is Central Oregon’s only infectious diseases outpatient clinic. The department of infectious diseases offers specialized expertise in severe or unusual cases of infectious disease on an inpatient and/or outpatient basis. Physicians provide consultation in infection management and antibiotic therapy. Areas of interest include:
- Surgical Wound Infections
- Orthopedic infections (including diabetic foot infections)
- HIV/AIDS
- Chronic viral hepatitis (B & C)
- Infections in oncology patients
- Patients with history of organ transplantation
- Patients with history of hypogammaglobulinemia
- Patients receiving biologic agents
- Chronic pneumonia, including M. tuberculosis, or non-tuberculosis, mycobacterial infections in any form
- Endocarditis and/or bloodstream infections
- Infections in returning travelers or immigrants
- Fever of unknown origin (if meets standard criteria)
In addition to serving Bend, the Infectious Diseases Department receives referral from extended area to include all of Deschutes County, Crook County and other central and eastern Oregon communities.
