Oncology

The Oncology Department at BMC has offered state-of-the-art cancer treatment since the 1970s. Today, we offer all available medical treatments for adult cancer, often collaborating with surgeons and radiation oncologists. We participate in clinical trails and experimental therapies through our affiliation with SWOG, NSABP and specialists at OHSU Medical Center. Since 1975, the department and its patients have participated in clinical trials of new cancer treatments through affiliations with large national cancer research groups. All of our oncologists are certified in Medical Oncology. Dr. Braich and Dr. Kornfeld are also certified in Hematology. We have a skilled staff of nurses who are certified to administer chemotherapy.

Oncology Infusion Center

The Oncology Infusion Center at Bend Memorial Clinic provides patients the opportunity to be treated for a wide variety of medical conditions as an outpatient in their community close to their home and families. Among the medical specialties that refer patients to the Infusion Center are: Hematology, Medical Oncology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, General Internal Medicine, Neurology and Rheumatology.

Hematology/Oncology patients account for the majority of treatments in the Center. In addition to Chemotherapy treatments for virtually any malignant condition, patients also receive supportive care including anti-emetic therapy, hydration and growth factor support. The Allied Health staff also provides psychosocial support to patients and their families during treatment. Additional services that are consistently provided include: therapies for Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Rheumatoid Arthritis, IV antibiotic therapy, iron infusions and Intravenous Gamma Globulin.

The informal and comfortable environment of the Infusion Center provides Central Oregon residents state of the art medical therapy in a convenient location. As medical knowledge and treatments advance and treatment options multiply, the importance of outpatient treatment centers such as the Infusion Center will only increase.
