Chief Executive Officer

David Holloway wanted to be an astronaut until a surgeon saved his finger after a childhood accident. After completing his family practice residency, Dr. Holloway built an urgent care and family clinic in a small Oklahoma community. Since then his professional path has taken him to Indiana and Oregon. Throughout his medical career, first as a practicing physician and then as a leader in clinic and hospital settings for the last 20 years, his focus has always been on patients. He is a committed advocate for patient safety and making sure that patients receive the right care every time. Dr. Holloway completed medical school and residency at the University of Oklahoma. He joins BMC after serving eight years at Salem Health where he was the hospital system’s Chief Medical Officer. Previously he was Chief Quality Officer for Parkview Health in Indiana, Vice President St. John Health System and President of OMNI Medical Group in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is recognized as a Certified Physician Executive through the American Association for Physician Leadership and is a Fellow of the Academy of Family Physicians.

Chief Financial Officer

Joan Sheldon has a vast array of experience in the financial sector, especially in the Bend area. A native Oregonian, born and raised in Hillsboro, Joan graduated with honors from Portland State University with Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting and Finance. She eventually found her way over the mountain pass to Central Oregon, trading in her rain boots for hiking shoes. Joan has been with BMC for many years and is one of the many smiling faces we have around the clinic. A certified public accountant with over two decades’ experience in both financial and tax accounting, Joan continues to be passionate about recruiting, training and developing the Accounting, Purchasing and Business Services teams.

Joan has lived in Sisters, Oregon for the past 15 years and enjoys spending time paddle boarding on the lakes and mountain biking on the beautiful trails throughout Central Oregon. When she’s not on the trails, you can find her volunteering at the Bend Community Center or for one of BMC’s community events.

Kurt Kempcke

Kurt Kempcke has 36 years of IT experience, the majority of work in healthcare. His first job in the healthcare was a night grill cook in a large teaching hospital. Kurt graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. He moved to Bend eight years ago, leaving the high desert of Albuquerque where he was the Applications Director for a large hospital system.

Kurt’s expertise involves strategic planning, electronic health records, system implementation and portfolio management in both the private and public sector.

In Kurt’s spare time he can be found honing his harmonica chops, taking in the local music scene, hiking, XC skiing or kayaking somewhere nearby. He and his wife are avid travelers having crossed 25 countries off their bucket lists. He also volunteers at the local Tower Theatre.

Chief Human Resources Officer

Cheryl Stewart has an extensive career in her chosen field of Human Resources. Cheryl grew up in Wyoming and earned an MBA and an MS in Human Resources from the University of Utah. She worked in internal leadership HR roles early in her career and then had her own HR consulting practice for 15 years. After some fascinating health care consulting work, she left the consulting practice and came to BMC to work with people who take care of patients. At BMC Cheryl believes all employees are members of the healthcare team. She also believes that creating a great employee experience is good business and directly impacts the patient experience.

Cheryl currently serves as a director on the Oregon Talent Council and the Oregon Healthcare Workforce Institute (OHWI) and has been involved in public education reform with the Chalkboard Project and served on the Sisters School Board.

She lives with her family in Sisters and enjoys the short commute reminds her of the beauty of this special place we live and work.
