An Open Letter to Moms

Dear Moms,

I wanted to let you know that I see you for the unsung hero you are. It’s no secret that you have been continuously challenged by these unusual times, pulling double duty as caregiver and educator while balancing your work and your own mental health. As a mother, you too, are an essential worker, digging just as deep as our first responders and health care heroes to make sure your front line stays healthy, safe, and happy.

Though the COVID-19 battle marches on, it is no match for you. If I know you, you will continue to shoulder more weight than you thought you could bear. You will do all you can to make the “new normal” feel more normal for your family. You will rise each day not knowing what the world has in store, but ready to face any complications that spring up. And you will do it all while personifying strength, wisdom, and love.

I also want you to know that it is okay to falter. It is okay to cry. It is okay to need a moment or two to yourself. It is okay to mutter, “This is impossible” or “I can’t do this” under your breath. No one has it all together all the time. Let those times come and allow them to pass. In those times, I have no doubt you will stay strong and prove resilient.

I want to thank you for so many things. Thank you for being a powerful, positive force in the lives of your children and for supporting, nurturing, and caring for the health, education, and well-being of our heroes of tomorrow.

My message to you is a simple one. Thank you.

With love and appreciation,

Someone who sees you

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY. STAY SAFE AND STAY WELL.
