He received his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his Residency and Internship at The Jewish Hospital of Cincinnati. Dr. Mathisen enjoys the variety that general surgery provides. His training allows him to be available to assist his colleagues in all areas of surgery. His special interests include flexible endoscopy, advanced laparoscopy, and non-cardiac thoracic surgery.
“The opportunity to provide efficient and compassionate surgical care in the Acute Care Surgery setting allows us to establish a rapport with patients who are suffering from serious illness and help them achieve restoration of good health. It has always been amazing how this relationship of trust can be built in just a few minutes, but lead to a lifetime of mutual appreciation.” Dr. Mathisen says of his practice.
Dr. Mathisen recently served at a hospital in West Africa which cultivated a passion within him to appreciate the ability to provide professional and compassionate surgical care despite cultural and language barriers. These same principles can be utilized in Central Oregon while still enjoying the wealth of medical resources that have been established in Bend, OR and SMGOR – BMC.
In his spare time, you can find Dr. Mathisen biking, traveling and spending time with his family.
